Now here’s an interesting article on Gizmodo. While the article deals with the U.S. I believe it applies to Canadians as well. You see the commercials on TV all the time promoting mobile content, picture messaging etc. but how many people actually use these services? And the people who do, mostly the younger generation are facing steep monthly wireless bills that are getting out of control. Does this segment of industry have legs?
I’ve spent some time in Japan and adoption of these services has been growing for years but North Americans don’t seem to be that interested. With our lives already so busy will we ever be big users of mobile services like picture messaging, mobile web etc. I thinks the costs of these services have to go down and the bandwidth available must increase or it will be some time.
People Give Up on Mobile Data: “
The telecom industry consultants at Olista have found that 64% of mobile phone users give up on sexy services like picture messaging, web browsing, and ringtone downloads almost immediately after experiencing any form of difficulty.
