Space Access 2007 Conference Update and Rant
Posted by: Marc Boucher in Space ExplorationThe Space Access Society is holding it’s annual conference March 22-24, at the Best Western Grace Inn in Phoenix, Arizona. I’ve never been to this conference but it does pique my curiosity as it appeals to my entrepreneurial side. They’ve assembled a good group of initial speakers with more to come I’m sure.
The conference appeals to what was once billed as the alt.space community but these days small space startup companies are finding it just a little easier to enter the market and with some innovative ideas are also getting noticed by the “established community”. And as NASA struggles to fund it’s Constellation program I see more small startups contributing and making a difference.
Now for a few thoughts on the Space Access Society web site. I applaud their efforts to organize their yearly conference but I think a little more effort should go into the web site.
Rule number 1 is make sure web site home page has a descriptive title. Currently the title of the home page is sashome. While the average user might not notice this, search engines will. And if you want more traffic and people potentially coming to your conference you should take care of the small things. I would make the title of the page “Space Access Society - Our purpose is to promote routine, reliable, radically cheaper access to space.” That will get you a little more traffic to start with. And I might also suggest using one of the many freely available content management system’s to manage the site. With just a few tools you would be amazed of what you can do with a site with respect to it’s look, features and more importantly the traffic it can attract.
Unfortunately I won’t be able to the conference this year but I recommend it to all those young entrepreneurs looking to getting into the industry.
